TRIBUTE BANDS, a three-part Gemini award-winning documentary series that explores a world that lies somewhere between fame and obscurity, the often bizarre world of tribute bands. Narrated by Rockstar: INXS finalist Suzie McNeil, each one-hour episode follows tribute bands that pose as The Police, Rush, and Queen. Their quest to become the “next best thing” to the real bands can be lucrative, funny, heartbreaking and at times surreal. In the world of tribute, it’s not about who you are, but who you think you are.
EPISODE 1: THE NEXT BEST STING
EPISODE 2: FOR THE LOVE OF RUSH
EPISODE 3: KEEPING THE SPIRIT OF FREDDIE ALIVE
In episode two, ‘For The Love of Rush’, we meet Mike Deyo of Burlington, Ontario, who plays in the Rush tribute band 2112 – A Tribute to Rush. Having spent most of his teenage years living on the streets of Toronto, Mike credits Rush with inspiring and motivating him to get off the streets. Mike has also spent the equivalent of a down payment on a house on his Rush gear, and believes Rush actually saved his life. The episode also includes interviews with real Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson.
